Birdy Badass

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Laurie here again with a fun card for the Tweet This Challenge going on now at the Portal.
For this card I used the Cracked Bird on Wheels stamp from Lost Coast Designs and the Once A Badass clear stamp from Carmen's Veranda.

I stamped my bird onto a background paper I had on hand that I made with green and pink acrylic paint, some stencils, and my Gelli plate.  I edged this panel with green Distress Ink and stamped my Cracked Bird onto the background.  I then added some color to my bird with some green and lavender Copic markers and added some Glossy Accents to his eye and beak.

I stamped my sentiment onto white paper then cut it in pieces and attached it to the left top corner.  Finally I layered my piece with white then lavender card stock.

Be sure to check out the other fun Cracked Critter stamps at Lost Coast Designs.  And dust off your bird stamps and make something fun for this Tweet This Challenge!!

A Tidy Mind

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!
Good morning and happy Bank Holiday weekend (well it is in the UK) it's Sue here with more feathers for our 'Tweet This' challenge.

It's very rare that I make anything straight into my journal, I'm far too chicken. I usually make something loose and then sew it in, but I was feeling bold today.
I started by gessoing the pages as I knew that I wanted to make a Brusho background, so there would be lots of water. What I didn't know was where I was going to go from there! After the gesso I did some stencilling with texture paste, then drank lots of coffee and ate my body weight in biscuits until it was dry. It's white paste on a white background - there is no photograph (I was too busy eating the biscuits)

I do love Brusho's! This looks really nice IRL with the drips and the puddles. I had to keep moping up the spine otherwise it would have all pulled apart.

I added a few doodles with black and metallic paints, and also some white pen. I stamped Tidy Minds in pink ink onto some tissue paper and stuck it down. Then I went around the edges of the tissue and the pages with the edges of the stamp and black ink. I painted the reverse of the tissue with white acrylic so that the sentiment stood out better.

I love this bird! He's called Feather Bird, but I call him Frank. I just think that he looks like a Frank! Sometimes I think that he looks angry, but today he's just being creative (messy) Anyway Frank's been stamped and embossed onto tissue paper. I've added a Tim Holtz sticker in the corner 'cos I liked the sentiment.

All done!
There's still time for you to enter our challenge, but be quick - remember you're playing for new rubber!
Enjoy the rest of your week, and thanks very much for looking xx

Tweet Tweet, Hello Little Birdies

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Happy Day Everyone!

Ink Stained Roni here and it's my turn to inspire you with my little birdie hello....

To create the background I cut a piece of white cardstock to 3.75" x 5".  I sprinkled a bit of the lime green Nuance onto a leaf embossing folder and gave it a light mist of water. I also misted the cardstock panel and immediately placed it into the embossing folder and ran it through my embossing machine.  I pulled it out and let it dry naturally.  Once the panel had dried I picked up a bit of the dark blue powder with my waterbrush and flicked it onto the panel several times.

On a separate piece of scrap white paper I stamped the two birds with VersaFine Clair Ink in Paradise and Warm Breeze.  These little chickes were fussy cut and I added a black dot for eyes. In order to tuck these birds into the bushes I used an Exacto Knife and cut around two branches, test fitting the birds as I cut until I was satisfied with their placement.

This panel was then mounted onto a white mat and a light blue card blank.  I added a bit of pen work, a few gemstones and a "Hello" die cut to finish off the card!

I hope you have found a bit of inspiration today and join in on the fun!  There is still plenty of time to join in on Challenge #53 - Tweet This.

Don't Forget to Fly

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello all.  This is Lori with another card for the Tweet This Challenge that I hope you will find inspiring.  Being the newbie, you may not know that I am deeply in a love to acrylic paint right now.  It seems to be my go to medium, even for cards!  Below is a card that I built around a back drop made with acrylic paint and crackle medium.

Lost Coast Designs Stamps:
  • Broken Letters
  • 3 Birds

Materials:
  • White card base (4 5/8” x 6 ¼”) and panel (¼” smaller around than card base).
  • Black card stock (trimmed smaller that panel (with room to tear edges on top and bottom)
  • White cardstock piece for stamped bird image
  • Ranger Archival ink, jet black
  • DecoArt Americana Acrylic paint (Titnanium White, Spicy Mustard)
  • DecoArt Americana Décor Crackle Medium
  • DecoArt DuraClear Statin Varnish
  • Faber-Castell Artist Pitt Pens
  • Uni-ball Signo Broad white pen
  • 3M double sided foam tape
  • Ranger Distress Oxide Ink; Fossilized Amber, Vintage Photo
  • Re-purposed plastic mesh
  • Sheer Black Ribbon
  • Tim Holtz idea-ology Small Talk stickers

Instructions:
  1. Apply crackle medium to black card stock in a thin coat and allow to air dry.
  2. Once dry, quickly (don’t overwork it) apply Titanium White and Spicy Mustard acrylic paint over crackle medium surface.  Allow to dry.
  3. Seal crackled surface with satin varnish. Dry with heat tool and then tear card stock at the top and bottom.  See card for example; finished torn piece is approximately 4 ½” in height and 4 5/8” wide. Set aside.
  4. Stamp white card stock panel with stamp from broken letters set in archival ink.  Cover entire surface.  Use blending tool to blend oxide ink around edges.  Edge script panel with archival ink and then set aside.
  5. Stamp a bird from 3 Birds set in Archival ink and seal image with satin varnish.  Once dry, color bird with Artist Pitt Pens. (I used several shades of orange, yellow and browns).
  6. Fussy cut bird image out and put a final seal of satin varnish on it.  Dry with Heat tool.
  7. Add highlights to bird with white pen.
  8. Retrieve crackle background element and adhere a strip of plastic netting as well as sheer ribbon across the lower portion of the panel.  See card to placement.
  9. Adhere bird over netting/ribbon with mounting tape.  Again, refer to card image for placement.
  10. Choose saying from the Small Talk sticker set and stick to upper left portion of crackle element.
  11. Adhere the finished crackle panel with bird to center of script panel.
  12. Adhere script panel (with finished crackle panel and bird) to card base.  Edge card base with archival ink.

Done!!

Be sure to link your “Tweet This” project for a chance to win!  I am looking forward to seeing your wonderful creations!

Happy day!
Lori

Watchful Raven

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello all Cathy here with a Lost Coast Portal challenge. Tweet this is what it is called and we want to see birds on your makes.

I started out with a A2 size white cardstock and grabbed some of my Distress Oxide inks and did the smooching technique with the inks.
Next I used the Goth Raven stamp and stamped it out on white cardstock.  I stamped the branch 2 more times to give the branch a longer area to go off the card.  I colored it in with Copic markers.  Then I glued a eye to the raven.  Why?  Because he sees all the other birds flying around him.

Next I used the flying birds background stamp.  The stamp is very large. So I cut one of the birds from the corner of the stamp so I could have a single stamp.  You can't even tell it is missing when you stamp the whole background. I used that single stamp and stamped around the Goth Raven. Then I glued the raven to the front and there we have the card I made.

I hope to see what you all come up with this  Tweet This Challenge.
You can join here.

Besties

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

This is such a fun challenge for mid-May - "Tweet This".  We want to see birds on your project.  Lots of fun stamps to choose from both Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda.

For this card I used the Whimsical Ruthie and the Carmen's Veranda clear stamp, Best Friends.
I created some bright background papers using my Gelli plate and some Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks in green and blue.  I then pressed the Doodle Circles stamp onto my plate before pressing my white paper to the plate so not only did the paint colors transfer but also the image of the circles.

I stamped Ruthie twice on white card stock and cut her out.  I took my painted papers and stamped Ruthie with black ink and cut just her body out.  Then I glued the painted bird bodies onto my stamped images and colored the beak and legs with yellow marker.  I cut two little party hats for my birdies and stamped them with black dots and glued them to my birds.

My background is a piece of scrapbook paper that I smudged with blue and green Distress Oxide inks then stamped some swirls and little flowers with the same inks.  I glued my birds as shown then stamped my sentiment on white paper, cut it out, and rubbed a bit of blue ink around the edges.  I attached it with some foam tape, inked the edges of the card front with blue ink and affixed it to my white card base.

A fun and whimsical card good for any occasion - change up the sentiment to Happy Birthday, Thank You, Miss You, etc.
Link up your birdie makes to our Tweet This challenge for a chance to win Lost Coast Dollars!!

Duck Shit

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello Gail here today.  The new challenge here at the Lost Coast Portal to Creativity is Tweet This!!   We want to see birds on your projects.   Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda have lots and lots of amazing bird themed stamps and the team will be showcasing these the next couple of weeks.  Carmen's Veranda's Duck insisted on making another outing!!
He's just so adorable!!  Here he is showing his rebellious side!

I stamped Lost Coast Designs Grunge Border 3" using Wilted Violet distress ink on grey card and cut it with Sizzix Deckle Edge die.  This gave a nice subtle look, but you can still see the details.
I stamped Duck on yellow card using Potting Soil archival and fussy cut and adjusted his wings so he looks a bit more animated.  I stamped the Carmen's Veranda Giveashitometer sentiment and embossed with black ink.  Actually, knowing ducks, I am not sure this sentiment is quite correct, cos ducks shit a lot!!  But there you go!!  Artistic license.  Oh, and despite my usually dislike of punctuation on sentiments I actually felt this one needed a few more full stops, so I used an embossing pen and some more powder to make it a bit more open ended.  I mounted it on a yellow card base that I stamped with Carmen's Veranda Dice Background and the brown archival ink.
Thanks for dropping by.  Link up your Birdie makes for a chance to win Lost Coast dollars and don't forget to drop back often to see more amazing inspiration from the team.

Duck A La'Orange

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello.  So nice of you to drop by.  Gail here today with a recipe for cuteness.

You said awww! didn't you?  I heard you!!!  Awwwwww, who can resist a cute and fluffy Duck.   And this was so simple!  Gotta love a quick make!!
I stamped the amazingly gorgeous Lost Coast Designs Shooting Star background using tangerine chalk ink on a yellow card base.  I edge the card base with the same chalk ink.  Then I stamped Carmen's Veranda Pineapple on the yellow card, embossed with black powder added some extra colour with distress ink and fussy cut.  I stamped Carmen's Veranda Duck on yellow card using the tangerine ink and also added some extra ink to the beak and feet, and a little white gel pen on his eye.  I fussy cut Duck and added him and the pineapple to the card.
Probably could have used masking instead of all that fussy cutting, but I think this way there's less chance of a stamp error LOL.  Not sure what occasion I shall use this for, but I think it's a really fun card, and so bright and cheerful.
There is still time to join in our Orange and Yellow challenge for your chance to win up to $10 of rubber stamps from Lost Coast Designs and/or Carmen's Veranda.  Link up by midnight PST for your chance to win.

Spotlight Rose

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello friends, Roni here with a lovely vintage Rose using the Spotlight Technique for the Yellow and Orange Challenge.

The rose was stamped onto an vintage book page using VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink, the image was stamped a second time on a scrap of white cardstock. This panel was matted with yellow and affixed to an orange card blank.

I determined which sections of the rose I wanted to spotlight and die cut those areas from the second image.  Those areas were then colored using Inktense watercolor pencils and a waterbrush.  Each of the colored spotlight circles were then mounted onto the original rose image so they lined up perfectly. A few dots of irRESISTible Pico Embellisher in Wedding Dress (white) was added to finish off the card.

Now it's your turn.  Are you up for our challenge?  Link your creations to the Orange and Yellow Challenge and you might just be the lucky winner of Lost Coast Designs & Carmen's Veranda stamps!

Just One Question....

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!
Good morning and happy Tuesday, it's Sue here, and I have just one question for you

Well do ya!
This is of course for our 'Yellow and Orange' challenge, and it is pretty much what it says on the tin! The 'Drips' is a huge background stamp that I inked up several times on my stamping platform to get the different shades of orange and yellow.

The Katzelkraft 'Bandaid Dog' was stamped onto watercolour card and then coloured with my Peerless watercolours.

He's been cut out and grounded on a piece of a gelli plate background. It was a really scrappy piece, but it just goes to show you must save everything - for years and years and then move house!
The sentiment has been printed on my computer - hands up who though it was 'are you feeling lucky punk' I know I did, so thank you Mr Google for putting me right!
I hope you join in with our challenge, and that you have a lucky week. Thanks very much for looking xx

Into the Sun

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hi from Laurie with another project for the Yellow and Orange Challenge going on until the 14th at the Lost Coast Portal.  This is a fun one since you can use whatever stamps or theme you want - the only requirement is that your main color scheme is yellow and orange.

For this card, I used the Steampunk Fly Girl stamp.  I created my background by taking a piece of white paper and stenciling first with yellow Distress Ink all over the piece.  I then used orange Distress Ink and several other stencils, adding a sun, some leaves and some random circles.  I then stamped my Steampunk Fly Girl with black ink onto my background.  I added some black dots along the top and bottom.  I finished by layering my piece with black and white card stock.

So get out your orange and yellow goodies and join our challenge!!

Yellow Buddha tag

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello all. Cathy here with a tag for this challenge.  I must say this was a tuff one for me.

This is what I came up with. A yellow and orange Buddha tag. I started off by painting the tag with a soft yellow and a soft orange. I set aside to dry.

As that was drying I got out a die and cut out some hanging vines from yellow cardstock and I add some orange distress ink to it.

After the tag was dry I took out  my  Asian Set of stamps. I started stamping the words randomly over the tag in orange and yellow distress ink.

Next I took the bamboo stamp from that set and stamped it on the bottom of the tag with orange distress ink.

Then I stamped the Buddha with orange distress ink again from that same stamp set on the same yellow cardstock that I used for the vine die. Cut out the Buddha and added it to the bottom the I added the vines to the top and that is my yellow and orange tag for this challenge.

I can't wait to see what you come up with for this Challenge.
