Frida Kahlo and other Women: Calligraphy Lady

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello All from Laurie with a card for the Frida Kahlo and other Women Challenge.  This challenge ends in a couple of days, so be sure to get your makes posted on the Portal for a chance to win some free stamps.

For this, I used the Calligraphy Lady stamp from Lost Coast Designs.  She was stamped with black ink onto pinkish patterned rice paper and cut out with deckle edged scissors.  I then glued her to a piece of vintage French book paper and edged that with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  That was layered with a pink patterned paper from 49 and Market and a white panel.

The butterfly, flower, and label were glued on as shown and all were also edged with Distress Ink.

Hope to see your fantastic projects here on the Portal!!

Dancer

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello, Cathy here with a card for you.
Stamps Used:

I started off with stamping the mum border on the bottom of the card so the dancer has something to stand on when I stamp it.
Next, I stamp the stamp from pieces of calligraphy in a grey ink randomly all over the background. Then I colored the dancer in with copic markers.

#167 Challenge at Lost Coast Designs/Carmens Veranda blog. Woman, (especially Frida Kahlo).

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

For my DT project for this challenge,
 I chose the Frida skull.
I had an unused background lying around,
and I thought it was suitable for this card.

What I used:
LCD Frida skull
LCD Pieces of Calligraphy
Chipped sapphire
Spiced marmelade
Saltwater taffy
Evergreen bough
Black soot
WOW embossingpowder Cake, WL74r(OM)
Versamark
Versafine onyx black
Vellum or Parchment paper
Die, Nellie's choise vintasia frames
Color pencils or markers,

How I made it:
To start, we use the distress inks and
water to make some puddles of ink on the craft sheet.
We dab the paper on that.
Dry it with a heat tool.
We dab black soot on the stencil and spray it with some water.
Now place the stencil with the ink side on the background.
The intention is that you get a faint print, so not on the entire paper black ink.
The colored background should show through.
Take an ornament stamp from the Pieces of Calligraphy set.
Stamp the top left and bottom right corners with Versamark.
Sprinkle the WOW cake embossing powder and melt it with the heat tool.
I wanted to see the colors of the background in the embossing powder.
So it may be that a different color embossing powder is better for you.
With versafine onyx black we now stamp the Frida stamp.
We color the stamp with pencils or markers.
What you prefer.
Cut out the Frida skull and stick foam tape on the back.
Die cut the ornament from the vellum.
Glue the ornament on the card and the Frida skull on top.
Matt on black cardstock.
I hope you liked it.
Get started now and join the challenge.
Maybe you are the winner of new rubberstamps.
The challenge is here.

Challenge #167 - Women - Paint My Reality

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello friends...today I have another card for our challenge #167 - Women.

When I was making this card I was still a bit hooked on the paper piece challenge so this card is stamped in layers..  I decided to go a bit out of my comfort zone and use reds, yellow and oranges and I started off by creating the background first.

I stamped the Frida 1 image on a piece of cream colored cardstock using VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink.  I blended a few shades of yellow and orange Distress Oxide inks then used a stencil to add reds on top.

The Frida image was then stamped 2 more times - one using brown ink (for the yellow parts) and a second time in Rhubarb Memento ink for the shawl.  Both were colored and fussy cut then glued down to the image.  The panel was then mounted on a maroon card base.

Be sure to check out the challenge #167 - Women on our blog and if you're feeling lucky enter your own creation for a chance to win!

A Woman Has The Right To Change Her Mind

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello Portal Peeps!   Gail here today with some more inspiration for the Woman challenge.  I actually stamped a lot of different women before I decided to use the lovely Lost Coast Designs Geisha and combine her with this fun Carmen's Veranda Power of Coffee sentiment.
I stamped Geisha on white card with black ink and fussy cut her.  I stamped Lost Coast Designs Concentric Circles Background with Ocean ink on white card and stamped the Power of Coffee sentiment with black ink.  I added a couple of colour blocks using some scrap paper and added the geisha.
I hope you get time to join the fun.  Include any stamped woman on your project for a chance to win Lost Coast dollars.

Thanks for dropping by.  Hugz

Those are my favorite pencils.
I made the text with white embossing powder.
I matted the card on a dark blue card stock.
And again on a white card stock.

Frida Kahlo

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Welcome to the first day of our newest challenge:  Frida Kahlo or Other Women.
It's Laurie here, and we are so glad you have joined us today.  I hope this card will inspire you to enter your projects here on the Portal for a chance to win some free stamps.

This card uses the Frida 3 stamp from Lost Coast Designs.  I love this stamp and the quote from Frida that surrounds it.  My background is a piece of vintage book paper that has been stained with green and yellow  Distress Inks.  Atop that I have randomly added some orange acrylic paint and edged it with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  It is layered to a white panel.

Frida was stamped with black ink onto white card stock and cut out as shown.  I colored her with some Distress water color pencils in shades of rust and yellow and added a bit of pink to her cheeks.  She was then centered and glued atop the card front.

Please be sure to share your projects here on the Portal - we can't wait to see what you create!

CHALLENGE #167

WOMAN

I originally suggested to the team that we should have a Frida Kahlo challenge, because we are fans and Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda both have some gorgeous stamps of Frida.  But we realise you may not all have Frida stamps, so we made it Woman.  Please include any stamped woman on your project, and if you have a Frida stamp we would love to see her.   Real rubber or clear stamping and the theme must be the focus of your project.  A small stamped sentiment in a sea of die cuts or digi images will not qualify to win the prize and you may be deleted!!!!  Bwahahhaaahaha.

Please remember we do have some Challenge Rules to follow so look them over to ensure your entries qualify to win this month's prize!

You are welcome to play in our Challenges using rubber stamp images from any company but if you use any of our Lost Coast Designs or Carmen's Veranda stamps...we love it when you do...then your entry counts as two which doubles your chances of winning in our random prize drawing.

PRIZES

#166 Paper piecing, Halloween style.

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Good morning dear blog readers, Riet here.
Today my second contribution to the "Paper piecing" challenge.
I chose a Halloween theme.
The LCD stamp Frank is so much fun and definitely suitable for paper piecing.
Here is the explanation for this Halloween banner.
What I used:
Lost Coast Design, Frank.
Lost Coast Design, Spiderwebs background.
Lost Coast Designs, Rustic checkerboard border.
Carmens veranda, Witches go riding.

Stazon black,
Distressink Black soot,
Versafine onyx black.
Die with bats.
Markers or pencils.
Designpapers with a small print.
Black paper for the bats.
Orange paper for the bottom half.
Purple paper.
Foamtape.

Now we strart.
I started with a basic cardboard in point shape.
For the top half I took an orange paper with a fine print.
And for the bottom an orange paper stamped with the spiderwebs background in stazon black.
I tore the top of the spiderwebs paper,
and applied some Distressink black soot with an ink blending tool.

Now we glue the two halves on the white cardboard in point form.
Ad some Distressink black soot with an ink blending tool on the edges.

Now we stamp the Rustic checkerboard with the versfine.

With the versafine I stamped the text from Carmens Veranda On a purple die cut.
Ad some Distressink black soot with an ink blending tool on the edges.

First we stamp Frank on white paper with stazon black.
Color only his head.

Then we stamp Frank on three different design papers and cut out all parts.
We cut out the white frank in its entirety.
That is the base where all clothing pieces are glued on.

With a purple pencil I colored the details.
The pockets are done eith a small piec of paper.
I gave Frank gloves in the same paper as the shoes.
I stick the text and frank with some foam tape.
Glue the bats and glitter stars on the text label.

Make two holes and thread a piece of string through them.
So you can hang it.
I hope you liked it.
Our team cordially invites you to join the challenge.
It's so much fun and you also have a chance to win stamps, so join us!
Please read the rules to avoid misunderstandings.
I wish you good luck in the challenge.

Paper Piecing: Los Tres Caballeros

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello everyone, Liesbeth here with some Paper Piecing inspiration. It's the theme for our current challenge, give it a try yourself, so much fun!
This time I used just one stamp: Tres Caballeros, one of my all time favourites!

I stamped the Caballeros onto different scraps of paper: clouded blue, copper metalic, pink/skin, and red, green and yellow. I cut out the different pieces and made a nice colour composition. I glued every piece down and finished with some white gelpen accents and some gems.

Have fun!

Paper Piecing: Girl with A Curl

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Laurie here welcoming you to the current challenge here on the Portal:  Paper Piecing.  And as you can see by the card I made for this, that is exactly what I did.

I started with an 8 1/2 by 11 piece of card stock and got a stash of bits and pieces of left over paper that I can't ever seem to get rid of.  You know, you might need it one day!!  At any rate, I began on the perimeter of my base paper and started tearing out small bits and gluing them around the edges.  Once that was complete, I started filling in the blank spaces, working my way into the center until every bit of the card stock was covered.  I trimmed the edges to neaten it up.

Next I stamped The Girl With A Curl stamp onto white paper with black ink and colored it using Copic Sketch Markers.  I layered it with a piece of white paper that I cut with deckle edged scissors then to a gold and then a pink panel.  I cut a square section of my paper-pieced page and affixed my stamped image right in the center.  I edged it with a gold pen and layered it with a piece of white card stock.

Making this pieced background was a lot of fun and I really liked the end result.  I made a couple of copies of the finished product so I would have some pages I could use other projects.  We can't wait to see your paper piecing!!
