Edgar Allan Poe Strikes Again!

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hi, it's Dot here today with a tutorial for you
which is Poe inspired.  It is for our current Silhouette Challenge.

The Grunge Tree makes a sombre backdrop for Edgar Allan Poe.
And just for fun, the Zombie Chicken looks suitably scared.
The words are from Dogs Like Me.

Step 1:  Stamp Poe onto your card. And again onto some photo copy paper (cut out to use as a mask).

Step 2:  Mask Poe and then stamp the Grunge Tree. I've used brown and black Archival ink for this.

Step 3:  Make a circle mask using a circle die and place the mask above Poe's head.

Step 4:  On an acrylic block swipe some Tea Dye Distress Ink and some water and stamp this around the circle mask.  I've also blended a little Tea Dye ink around the edge of the moon so that it is more pronounced. Remove the mask.

Step 5:  Stamp the Zombie Chicken so that he is sitting on Poe's head and is placed in the moon spotlight.

Step 6:  To finish, stamp the words from Dogs Like Me in random places in the background.  I've used Aged Mahogany in Distress Oxides because it tones in with the browns and stamps crisply.  I've also stamped some extra words from ATC Text Set 1.  Trim the card down and mount onto black and white cardstock.  I've also painted some Tea Dye ink onto Poe's face for a little more effect, and some Black Soot onto the Zombie Chicken.

I hope you enjoy this card and have a go at making it.
Remember, we have a Silhouette Challenge  on until the end of the month.

or pop on over to our facebook group and enter there.

Happy Stamping!

Sharks and Owls

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Greetings from Laurie with a project(s) for the latest Lost Coast Challenge:  Silhouettes.

I had two sets of Carri's Menagerie stamps - owls and sharks.  I couldn't decide which to use, so I made a card with each and decided to show you both of them.  These stamp sets are so darn cute and there are a bunch of them to chose from.

So for the Sharks card, I used a piece of Yupo paper that I had colored with yellow and green alcohol inks.  I stamped it lightly with the Doodle Circles Background and some distress ink.  I then stamped my sharks directly onto my paper using StazOn black ink.  I edged the card with black ink and then stamped Out of Order, one of the Carmen's Veranda clear stamps, onto my square and edged it with black.  I affixed that above my sharks and there is a fun card done!

For my second card, I used a piece of background paper I created using my Gelli plate, some yellow and green acrylic paints and stencils.  I edged it with black ink.  I stamped my owls onto white paper with black ink and cut them out, affixing them to the lower portion of the card front.  I stamped the Carmen's Veranda clear stamp Out of Order Sticker onto a white square with black ink, edged it with black and affixed it above the owls.  And another easy and fun card - done!

Come visit the Portal now for this fun challenge and let's see your Silhouette projects!

Green Angel

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Welcome my friends!
Ink Stained Roni here...

I hope you're staying warm wherever you are.
Today to break out of the winter blahs I thought it would be fun to go green....

Monochromatic Green that is

I started off by stamping the winged angel using Verdant VersaFine Clair Ink; I then stamped "Beauty" with Memento Bamboo ink.  The background flourishes were stamped using Green Oasis VersaFine Clair Ink then spritzed with Frost Sheer Shimmer Spritz.

I trimmed the angel, matted her on white cardstock, added a few gemstones and a bit of twine then pop dotted her onto the card base.  It's very sparklie IRL - wish you could see it.

Spring Bunny

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello.  Gail here today.  The current challenge is Silhouettes so I inked up the beautiful Rabbit With Flowers and made a spring card.  Well, we can dream can't we......

I started by stamping the word spring using Lost Coast Designs License Plate Alphabet and Mowed Lawn distress ink on my white hammered card base.
Then I used Carmen's Veranda Monkey Face and the Mowed Lawn distress ink to make a grassy border.  Rotate your monkey to get realistic looking grass.
I stamped Rabbit With Flowers using black archival ink on white card and fussy cut.
I added the rabbit to the card then stamped it again and cut out three flowers, coloured them yellow and stuck them on.

Crackle Crow Card

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello all Cathy here with a quick card you can all make.
I started out with 2 colors of Distress Oxide ink in blue. I smooched them on a craft sheet, spritzed them with water and then smooched the paper into the colors. Dry the paper.
Then I took Raven with Tree Branches, stamped it with black ink and layered it on black cardstock.
So I had the left over black cardstock and I had this Tim Holtz tree branch die that I thought would work great with the Raven stamp.
I layered it with some sliver glitter paper to make it shimmer.
Mounted it on a white cardstock base and that is my quick card for you.
I hope you join in the fun with this Silhouette Challenge

Exciting Things Are Just Around The Corner

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello Portal Peeps.
Today we would like to start by introducing our new teamster

DOT LEATHBRIDGE

Dot is joining us from Australia.   Here's what she has to say about herself,

Hi everyone, I'm Dot and I live in Geelong, Australia. My two boys are now all grown up and are beginning their own adventures which is exciting to see.
I started my crafting journey by going to a 'stamp party' when the kids were younger and was instantly hooked! I am a passionate stamper who loves to experiment and have fun with stamps. There are so many different ways to use them.
I've been on few design teams over the years along with the occasional chance to be published in magazines both in Australia and overseas. I now have my own shop, on Etsy, where I sell the stamps that I love, including Lost Coast Designs stamps.
Lost Coast Designs stamps have long been a favourite of mine. I love how unique and original they are, so different to any other stamps that are out there. They just make you smile every time you see them.

Welcome to the team Dot.  Over to you......

Hi, it's Dot here and I'm excited to share my first DT card with you today.
I had so much fun putting this card together and I hope you give it a go.
It's great to get back into the swing of crafting after the Christmas and New Year break.

This card is where the stamps do all the work, with only a little bit of masking involved.
Step x Step:
  • Stamp the Daisy Flourish onto your card. I've used Archival Jet Black.
  • Paint over the flourish with masking fluid with a fine paint brush and let dry. It only takes a minute or two.
  • Ink up the Arches and Door with different shades of brown ink. Start with light brown first and then go to the darker browns so that you don't wreck your ink pads.
  • Clean any wet ink from your masked area and then lightly rub away the masking.
  • Because it is a large stamp I've taken the card to the stamp and carefully rubbed over the card. A little like when you are using a gelli-plate, keeping one hand on the card at all times so that it doesn't slip.
  • Stamp the 3 animals from the Isle of Aud set onto photocopy paper.  Again I've used Archival ink.  Cut out and edge lightly with Black Soot DI.
  • To finish, attach the animals to your background. Stamp the smallest puppy from Puppy 1 (Carri's Menagerie) into the doorway. Mat and layer your card onto coordinating card.

Doodle Flowers

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Happy New Year - Laurie here.  We start the new year off with a fun Anything Goes theme
for our first challenge.  This leaves you with lots and lots of possibilities for all kinds of projects and you get to make your own theme!

I made a series of ATC cards using the Sketchy Cone Flower and the Sketchy Lily Flower stamps, both to be found in the new section of the Lost Coast Designs rubber stamp catalogue.

I stamped my flowers onto some scraps of paper I had on hand that I had made using my Gelli Plate and some acrylic paints.  I chose red, orange, blue and yellow/green.  I used Staz On black ink for the stamping, then cut out the flower portion of each one.

Next I stamped four different pieces of scrapbook paper with four of the ATC background stamps that can be found in the ATC section of Lost Coast Designs:  ATC Misc. 6 Set and the ATC Text Set 1 and cut them to fit the front of a standard ATC.  I edged each with black ink, then stamped the Cone and Lily flowers onto each background.  I then pasted my cut out flowers onto each of the four ATC cards.

The final step was to stamp Clear Stamp phrases with black ink onto white paper, cut out, and affix atop each flower as shown.
And there you have four colorful and fun ATCs that you can use for swapping or gifting.
Please join our first challenge of 2019 and show us what fun stamped creations you can make!

Frosty Blue Hugs

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

It's an "Anything Goes" challenge at the moment so I thought I'd share a little card that is quite timely in my neck of the woods...Frosty Blue Hugs!

Yes, it's been a bit breezy here in Indiana with our first snowfall of 2019 so I went with this fun mixed media card sending you Frosty Blue Hugs with this darling little snowbear.

The background was created by pouncing Memento Bahama Blue, Summer Sky and just a touch of Paris Dusk. I then spritzed the inks with Frost Sheer Shimmer Spritz to mix and add a bit of sparkle.  I pressed a cardstock panel into the ink mixture and set it aside to dry.

I then stamped both large and small snowflake stamps with VersaFine Clair in Paradise Blue, a few using Kaliedacolor Blue Breeze inkpad and Silver Delicata ink.

I then stamped the little bear with the VFC Paradise ink and water colored him with a variety of blues and a touch of red.  I added some black pen work and glitter to finish him off.  He was fussy cut, added to the snowflake panel and it was all affixed to a red card base.

It's your turn...have you created a card this year?
If so be sure to link it to our challenge for your chance to win!!

Good Luck Everyone!

Opera Singing Brunhilda

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!
Hello all, Cathy here with a Opera singing card.
As I was making it all I was thinking of Looney Tunes cartoon with Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny and them singing the Opera. Tell me what you think if you see it.

I started out by stamping Brunhilda  and then making a mask for it. I colored her with my Copic markers and then I cut out the mask.
Then I cut out some "grass" stencil from scrap cardstock and used my distress ink to color the grass. I also die cut a circle from that scrap and used my distress ink and made a moon. After I added the mask to Brunhilda  I stamped the pillars from the ATC shrine set. Colored them with Copic markers.

I finished the card by coloring the sky with some Copic markers.

Monstrously Adorable

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello.  Gail here today with my first offering for the year and it's a monster!!  Well, actually it's two monsters, but they are just too cute!!!!  Have you seen the new Lost Coast Designs Creepy Dolls??  The team is in total agreement that mostly they aren't really creepy at all, but adorbs!!  Some were released in the autumn and then there was another batch just in time for Christmas.   Here's Frank and his best bud Werewolf outside Wolfy's Ancestral Home.
Adorable!!
I started with a panel of white card and the blue smudgy pattern is transfer from a stencil I had used on another project.  Waste ink not!  I cut the panel with a Stitch Rectangle die which I inked with Black Soot distress ink before cutting the panel.  This gave that nice wiggly frame.  Then I stamped the door from Lost Coast Designs Door and Window set using Memento London Fog ink for a subtle effect.
Did I say Squuueeeee!! yet??  Love these dudes.  I stamped Frank and Werewold on white card with black Archival ink and fussy cut.  Werewolf was coloured with Promarkers and Frank with distress inks and gel pens.   Don't worry about the arm!!  Frank is really good at needlework!!!
I stamped and embossed the Carmen's Veranda Best Friends sentiment and added my little monsters, aranging the loose hand so it looked like Werewolf has really long arms when he puts his arm around your shoulders!!  Then I decided the proportions of the card were all wrong!!
I chopped off the sentiment, recut the top of the card doing the inked border thing again.  I cut out the sentiment and added it back in for a more bijou and cosy look.

Thanks for dropping by.
I hope you feel inspired to get your stamps out and play along with our Anything Goes challenge
There's a chance to win yourself some new stamps for the new year!!
