31 Days of Halloween: Day 4

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Oh it's our favorite time of year here on the Portal - Halloween!  And we celebrate all month long with a new Halloween themed project every day for 31 days.

It's Laurie with a gorgeous raven here to get you in the mood.  This card was made using the M Raven 2
stamp and the Spiderwebs background stamp, both from Lost Coast Designs.

My raven was stamped with black ink onto white paper and fussy cut out.  I colored over him with a gray Copic marker to fill in the white spots, and also added some color to his beak and the branch he is perched on.  I affixed an orange gem to his eye, which I think kind of gives him a siniste look!

The background is a not terribly successful attempt at stencil-smooshing - spraying Distress Ink onto a stencil, turning it upside down on a piece of paper, and pressing it into the paper while wiping up the excess ink with a paper towel.  But when I stamped this with the Spider webs background stamp, it really came to life.  I then sprayed it with some Antiqued Bronze Distress Mica Spray.  It gives it a great metallic sheen, which is hard to photograph but is a great touch.

This was layered with a white panel, and I stitched around the perimeter with black thread.

So we hope you will join us all month for the fun of another Halloween with Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda!  And a chance to win some free stamps when you post your makes here on the Portal.

31 Days of Halloween - Day 1 - Nevermore

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello Friends....welcome to my favorite time of the year!!!

31 Days of Halloween...are we ready to kick things off???

Here is my first offering for the month...Nevermore!  Yes, I do love a bit of Poe at Halloween.

I began by inking up a piece of white cardstock using a die-cut acetate circle to create the moon. I then stamped the Tree with Birds several times overlapping a bit here and there to create my spooky forest.  I then added the sentiment Nevermore.  A bit of glitter (which I couldn't capture in the photo) plus a bit of white paint pen stars finished it off. The panel was then mounted on a black card base.

I hope you join in on the 31 days of fun we have in store for you...
the more entries, the bigger and better the prize!!

Birds! Sing Like a Bird

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

It's the last day of our Birds Challenge, so if you have not entered your bird projects on the Portal, please do before the challenge ends.

It's Laurie here with a tag made for this challenge using the Cracked Bird on Wheels stamp from Lost Coast Designs and the Sing clear stamp from Carmen's Veranda.

The background for this tag is made using Distress spray inks and ink pads and a stencil.  I sprayed my stencil with dark blue Distress Spray ink then turned it over and pressed it onto a piece of white card stock, patting with a paper towel to pick up the excess ink.  Once that was completely dry, I placed the stencil back atop the paper, lining it up exactly.  I then took a sponge dauber and a pink Distress ink pad and dabbed the pink ink into the white spaces.  I edged the tag with the same blue ink.

I stamped my Crazy Critter Bird with black into onto white paper and fussy cut it out.  I colored it with Copic Sketch markers and added some Glossy Accents to the bird's eye and a gold ball to the wheel on the end of the bird's front leg.  The bird was attached to the tag as shown with foam tape.

"Sing" was stamped with black ink onto a white scrap and cut out, then affixed with foam tape.  Final touch was to tie a piece of pink seam binding to the top of the tag.

We look forward to seeing your Bird-y projects and hope you are the lucky winner of some free stamps!

Bird on a Bike

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

I thought it would be fun to share a bird on a bike....

I don't know why but this bird tickles me every time I see it. It is just so fun and whimsical.

I started off by stamping the Flying Birds background on a chocolate (color not candy) piece of cardstock and affixed it to a dark brown card.

Next I die-cut an arched window  and stamped it with one of the stamps from Pieces of Calligraphy set and Pieces of Architecture.

Finally I stamped the Bird on a Bike onto cream cardstock and fussy cut it.

All of these elements were then affixed to the card....a bit of pattern paper, twine and brads to finish it off.

#175 Birds challenge

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!
 Hello, Riet here,
today I stamped a wooden house, made from leftover wood.
It's not hard to do if your wood isn't too ruff.
Its my take on the bird challenge.

I used:
Lost Coast Designs, Annie,
Carmens Veranda, Once a badass.
Distress ink, Pumice stone
Versafine onyx black.

How I made it.
I started with Distressink Pumice stone.
Slide the pad from the outside to the inside over the wood.
Stamp the girl Annie with Versafine black ink.
And the badass text at the bottom right.
I cut off a crow from the crow border. And stamped it on the text.
I stamped text here and there with the smallest stamp from the Pieces of calligraphy sheet.
And that was it, simple and fast.
This way you can quickly make a very nice gift for someone.
Or a piece of decoration in your home.
It would be so much fun if you took part in the challenge.
And you know what? You can even participate with stamps from other brands.
Please read the rules so that you can qualify for a prize.
Hope to see you at the challenge.

Hello Portal Peeps!!  Gail here today with some inspiration for the Birds challenge.  Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda have so many lovely bird themed stamps.  Today I am using Lost Coast Designs Tall Trees background stamp and medium Owl.
I stamped Tall Trees background with various colours of archival ink trying for an autumnal feel.  Then I turned it on it's side and watercoloured a moon.  I stamped the Owl in brown and then coloured some of the details with bright gel pens.  Finally I stamped the Thinking of You with brown ink.
Thanks for dropping by.
The team will be posting more inspiration throughout the month so check back often and join the fun with your bird themed stamped anythings.

#175 Its all about "Birds" this challenge.

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hi there, Riet here.
What a nice challenge this is.
Who doesn't love birds.
For this challenge I used the stamps:
This is a stampsheet with individual words and I must say, I use them a lot.

What else did I use:
Stazon midnight blue.
Distress ink,
Evergreen bough,
Peacock feathers,
Twisted citron,
Mowed lawn.
Versamark.
Gold embossing powder.
Blonde moments EP Savory Sky Iridescent,
White gel pen.
Blue and green colored pencils or markers, whatever you prefer.

How I made it.
I started with the 4 distress colors on the craft sheet and a little bit of water.
I ran the paper through that and made ink spots.
I stamped the edges with a stamp from the brushstrokes sheet,
 and Stazon midnight blue.

I forgot to photograph the next step.
But that is not difficult to do.
Take a thin paper and stamp the Gothic window
with the stazon midnight blue and color it with the pencils or markers.
Stamp the window on the background as well.
Cut out the colored window and glue it to the stamped print on the card.
Give the window some accents with the white gellpen.
Stamp the Raven with the Versamark and
sprinkle the dark blue embossing powder on top.

Use a heattool to melt the embossingpowder,
And now you see the beautifull dark blue shine.
Just look how beautiful this dark blue color is.

Now we move on to the grunge tree.
The grunge tree has a frame and I didn't want to stamp it.
So I covered it with tape.
The stamp was inked with Versamark.
Remove the tape before making the print.
Sprinkle with gold embossing powder and use the heat tool to melt it.
I did the edge of the card with my finger.
Press your finger on the versamark and swipe along the edges.
Sprinkle with gold embossing powder and use the heat tool to melt it.
With the stazon midnight blue the word "Fly" is stamped here and there.
In the window I gave the glass some shade with a dark blue pencil.
And some white accentswith the gellpen on the stone frame of the window.

Hope you liked this tutorial.
And dont forget to join the challenge.
Thanks for visiting the blog.

Birds: The Hokey Pokey Clinic

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hi from Laurie with a post for our newest challenge:  Birds!  This one features the  Grumpy Penguins stamp from Lost Coast Designs and the Hokey Pokey Clinic clear stamp from Carmen's Veranda.

My background is a collage of black and white papers that I put together in a sort of patchwork design.  I layered them atop a piece of black card stock then machine stitched around each of the pieces to really make it look like patchwork.

I stamped the penguins onto white paper with black ink and fussy cut them out.  I added some yellow marker to their beaks and cut out some funny hats for each of them to wear.  They were then mounted atop my card front with foam tape.

The sentiment was stamped with black ink onto a white rectangle, edged with black ink.  It was affixed as shown with foam tape, and this card is complete!

Be sure to post your bird-y makes here on the Portal.  You just might win some free stamps!!

Midnight Cowboy

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello Portal Peeps!  Yee haw!!  Gail here with a final bit of inspiration for the Bling It Up Challenge.  Christmas is the season of bling so I rolled out Carmen's Veranda Snow Cowboy.
I used a piece of dark glitter paper for the background.  The Moon and Snow Cowboy were stamped and embossed on silver glitter card.  I used the same glitter card to emboss the sentiment and cut it with a stitched landscape die.  This silver glitter card is one of those non-shed types.  It's a type of plastic and if you overheat it can become less glittery.  I overheated around the sentiment for a faux panel.  After embossing the moon and cowboy I coloured with Promarkers.  I think it's best to use a dabbing technique on glitter to protect the nibs.  Then I fussy cut them and added them to my midnight scene.
