Final Days of Challenge #74 On Wings She Flies

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

We're approaching the final days of the latest
Lost Coast Designs/Carmen's Veranda

Today I wanted to share a birthday card I made using a variety of mediums. The background is a gelli print I made using a feather which I swished around here and there to create the really interesting pattern. The mat was made using Nuance pigment inks and the image was colored using both alcohol ink markers and colored pencils.

The main image is the Hard Luck Pixie Rosie and the sentiment comes from the Party Words set of stamps.

If you haven't already be sure to enter this fun challenge for your chance to win!

Good Luck my friends!!

Hot and Sexy

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello Lost Coast Peeps.  Gail here today with a fun CAS card using Robust Dancer.  She has a pair of butterfly wings which makes her eligible for our On Wings She Flies Challenge.

The plan was to make a one layer card but when I stamped the dancer I got a bit of extra ink transfer at the top from my acrylic block, so I decided to do a partial die cut instead.  I chose an oval die and lined it up over the image.  I made a couple of pencil marks where the dancers arms will be outside the die and then fussy cut her hands and arms up to, and maybe a bit beyond the pencil lines.  Tuck the die behind her hands before you cut.

I inked the outside of the oval with black archival ink.  I coloured the dancer with Worn Lipstick distress ink and some gel pen highlights.  Since I had cut the oval I decided to pop it up on some craft foam and added a couple of tiny pieces behind her hands to support them.  I stamped the Carmen's Veranda Hot and Sexy Birthday sntiment with black archival ink.

Thanks for dropping by.  There is still time to add your winged female projects to the linky for your chance to win Lost Coast dollars.

On Wings She Flies: Time Flies

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hi!  Laurie here again with another winged creation for the current "On Wings She Flies" challenge.  This is another card made with the wonderful Lost Coast Calligraphy Doll stamp.

I started by stamping my image with black ink onto a piece of vintage ledger paper that I dyed using coffee.  If you have not tried using coffee to dye paper, it's easy and gives you a wonderful vintage effect.  The piece I used here was off white to begin with, so you can see the interesting effect the coffee has.  You can use old book pages, ledger paper, maps, sheet music, etc. - whatever you have on hand.  There are lots of You Tube videos that will show you how to do this simple technique.  All you need is paper and some coffee!

I then restamped the wings using StazOn black ink onto a piece of gold metallic paper and cut them out.  I attached them atop the original stamped image.  I tore around the edges of my image then layered it with black paper.  The final step was to punch holes along the top and bottom of the left side and thread some gold twine and a little brass key around the edge.

So come how us what wonderful creations you can make with wings for a chance to win some free stamps!

On Wings She Flies, Card by Dot

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Welcome back!
I hope everyone has had a fantastic Easter and enjoyed
lots of chocolate.

The On Wings She Flies challenge is still on until the end of this month
so there is plenty of time for you to enter.
You can enter here or over in our facebook group.

This is a one layer card that uses the Winged Girl NS, Daisy Flourish and Arches and Door stamps.
One layer cards using masking is one of my favourite things to do.

Here is how this one came together:

Step 1: Stamp the gorgeous Winged Girl onto some photo copy paper and cut her out. This will be a mask, so it is important to cut her out a couple of millimeters in from the edge of the stamped image. This prevents a shadow around your stamped image when you add the background.

Step 2: Stamp the Winged Girl onto your card. I used archival ink for this. Dry well and place the mask over her. You should see an outline of the underneath image all the way around.

Step 3: Ink up the Arches and Door stamp. I used Rose Madder archival ink, coffee espresso DO and Versafine black ink.  The rose madder is a beautiful pink and I thought the brown ink would go with the pink nicely.  The Versafine is a rich black which is what I wanted as a border. This stamp is placed on your craft sheet without any acrylic block underneath.

Step 4: Place your card onto the inked up stamp. After a fair bit of experimenting, I decided that she looked best when she was over to one side.  This means that part of her is in the doorway. So, bear this in mind when you are placing your card onto the stamp.

Step 5: Being careful, gently rub over the card with your fingers. It's a little like doing a print. I like to keep one hand on the card at all times so that it doesn't move. I did it this way because when I tried to stamp straight onto the card I ended up with shadow effects around the image, no matter how many times to tried to do it.  Doing it in reverse gave me a much better stamped image.  This is due to the Arches and Door being quite a large and detailed stamp. Trim your card down.

Step 6: Leaving the mask in place, randomly stamp some of the Daisy Flourish.  Less is more (yes, I discovered this through trial and error too lol).

Step 7: To make the Daisy Flourish pop a little I've used a white gel pen to add some sketchy detail.  I love how the white gel pen picked up a little of the brown DO and gave a toned effect. It looks so natural. It was a lovely surprise.  It also hides of all the lines from the Arches and Door stamp. I like to use Tea Dye distress ink for skin tones. I just add a little to a craft sheet and spritz with water.  Using a fine brush I can then play with light and shade.  Distress ink is good to use as if you are too heavy with the colour it can be easily removed with a little water.

Step 8: Mat and layer your card onto some card.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
It is a little fiddly, but it is worth having a go.

Variations:
Change the colours.
Change the focal image.
Add some words.

Happy Stamping

On Wings She Flies: Flying Mona

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Oh I love this challenge - anything with wings is my thing!  Butterflies, birds, angels,
fairies, you name it!  I hope you love them too and will make some winged women creations for this new challenge.

I made a card for this one using the Mona Flying stamp for the central image and the Sketchy Rose as a background accent. These are both from the Lost Coast Designs collection.
I stamped my Mona on white card stock with black ink then cut her out.  I added some color to her face with Copic markers and colored her hair as well.  I then stamped her wings, her body, and her legs with black ink onto coordinating pieces of card stock and cut those out.  I superimposed those onto my original stamped image and added some enamel dots as buttons and cut out a crown for her to wear.

My background is a piece of paper painted and stenciled on my Gelli plate in pink and green paints.  I used the Sketchy Rose stamp and black ink to randomly stamp the page to give the background a bit more interest.  I used foam tape to attach Mona to the center so she stands out a bit.

I then stamped the saying Too Many Options from Carmen's Veranda with black ink onto white paper and cut it into individual words.  I edged each with black ink and arranged as shown.
The final step was to mount my card front to a deep pink piece of card stock.

The sarcasm is strong

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!
Hello all Cathy here with a fun card for you all.
Stamp Used: Flying Ballerina

I cut a square out of white cardstock and stamped  Flying Ballerina on it. I colored it with Copic markers and then I added glitter dots to the dress, set aside to dry.
For my background I used some paper I made by spraying some shaving cream into a pan and spraying dylusions sprays on top. I wanted to see if it would work. It did. I have many background papers ready to go. The first ones I just left the spray with out mixing it. After a few pulls from that I started to "marble" it so it looks like the one in the photo. ( That is done with only 3 colors)
Here is a close up of the dress. I did a glitter to the wings but I could not get that to show up in the photo. I then added a snarky saying to the top. Added foam squares to the back.
Before I added it to the front of the card I die cut some flowers out of black cardstock and glued them to the card.
I hope you like my card I made for you today. Come join the fun for this challenge here.

BLOOMING LOVELY FLOWERS: MUSE

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello from Laurie with another project for the Blooming Lovely Flower Challenge going on right now at the Lost Coast Portal to Creativity.

This card was made with the Muse clear stamp from Carmen's Veranda and the  Sketchy Rose stamp from Lost Coast Designs.

I have some background papers I have made with my Gelli plate and green, yellow and orange acrylic paints.  I stamped my Sketchy Rose three times onto one of these pages using black StayzOn Ink, then cut out the flowers and leaves.  Using a black Micron pen I darkened the center of each flower and glued some small orange rhinestones to each.  I layered the flowers atop each other and used foam tape to attache them to my yellow base.  I edged the yellow panel with black ink and mounted it to a green panel.  I stamped my word onto white paper with black ink and cut it out, edging it with black ink as well.  I then affixed it atop my flowers with foam tape.

This is such a pretty stamp that could be used for so many occasions and in just about any color you chose, and it was designed by our own DT member Lori!

We would love to see the blooming creations you make for this latest challenge!  Be sure to enter for a chance to win some fabulous free stamps!

Blooming Lovely Card Using Distress Inks - Dot

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hi everyone,
it's Dot here with a card tutorial for you for this fortnight's challenge
'Blooming Lovely Flowers'.

This card uses a couple of ATC stamps and the Grungy Flower Profile.

Here we go:
Step 1: Smooch a little distress ink on your craft sheet and spritz with a little water (I used Wild Honey, Rusty Hinge and Aged Mahogany). Swipe your card through the ink, dry, and dab again.  Just keep going with dabbing and drying until you have a background that you are happy with.

Step 2: Stamp the Grunge Flower Profile (lady) onto white card and the flower ATC from ATC Doodle Set with black ink.  Cut out the lady and some of the larger flowers. Go around the edges of the images with a little black soot ink (just to take away the white edges). Put aside for later.

Step 3: Using the ATC Doodle set, ink up the stamp with Orange Blossom Archival ink (I was going to use Rusty Hinge DO - but I couldn't find it) and randomly stamp some flowers diagonally across your card.  I placed my lady onto the background a couple of times to help me work out where the flowers would go.

Step 4: Using the lovely scrolling script from the ATC Text Set I stamped around some of the edges with black ink. To me this helps create a little border and it also helps to anchor the lady image a little.

Step 5: Attach the flowers and Grunge Flower Profile to your card.  Trim off the bits that go over the edge of your background. Matt and layer the outer card.

Isn't she gorgeous?
  • I started to fiddle a bit, as you do, and added some watered down distress ink to a couple of the flowers.
  • Using black and white is a great way to make images pop.
  • Use a larger piece of cardstock than you need for your background, you can then choose the most interesting bits to be your background when you cut it down.
And there you have it ... distress inks are still so much fun to play with.

A reminder that our fortnightly challenge is now over on facebook as well as here.
There is still time for you to join in!
There are a couple of days left for the Blooming Lovely challenge.

Happy Stamping!

Rose Red, Orange and Purple

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello Portal Peeps.  Gail here today with some Artist Trading Coins
 using the beautiful Owlynn.

I started by stamping the Owlynn image three times and embossing with fine black embossing powder.
I used watercolour inks and powders to colour my images.  Detailed images like this used to intimidate me, but I just start by picking out something that stands out, in this case the roses, then the leaves.  It gives me less to look at, and helps me to see where the rest of the colours need to go.
I edged the coins with black archival ink and smooched it onto the white areas.
I used gel pens to add small details like the stems on the flowers and colour to the eyes and face
I don't wear make-up, and have never really mastered it's application, which may go some way to explain the face paint.  But I think it quite suits her.
