Steampunk/Vintage Challenge - Steampunk Mermaid

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Our current challenge - Steampunk/Vintage is quickly coming to a close.  You still have a bit of time to join in on the fun and today I have my final Steampunk card to share with you...my Steampunk Mermaid.

I started off by stamping the Steampunk Mermaid on a piece of vellum using StazOn ink.  Once the ink had dried I colored the back of the image with a variety of markers and left her to dry.  After the inks had dried I tore the edges and set aside.

I created the background with pigment powders in shades of blue. I stamped the Gears background stamp using VersaMark ink and embossed it using gold, silver and copper embossing powders.  I crumbled up the mat several times to give it a distressed look, scraped the edges with an envelope opener then mounted it onto a blue card.

The Steampunk Mermaid was affixed to the card using liquid glue in the two corners which I covered up with a few metal gears.

I hope you have a bit of time to join in on this challenge...

Vintage /Steampunk: A new light

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello everyone! With this wonderful zeppelin ship stamp STP Dirigible I 'd love to show you my Steampunk card. I stamped it with black ink on a Distress Inked background and onto an old piece of book paper. I cut out the book paper zeppelin and glued it at it's place on the card. I coloured the ship and smoke with white colour pencil.

I stamped the text (from Travel Quotes) onto the edge of the book paper, cut it out and sponged the edges a bit and glued on the card.

There's a few days left for you to participate, join the fun and maybe you'll win! :-)
See you next time, have a nice week!

Steampunk/Vintage Challenge: Time Flies

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hi from Laurie as we continue the Steampunk Challenge here on the Portal through the end of August.
There are so many great steampunk themed stamps at Lost Coast Designs, and this is one of my favorites:  Time Flies.

I started this card using a piece of a collage Master Board that I had created for another project using vintage book pages with a kind of mathematic vibe.  Before I mounted the background panel to a piece of black card stock, I spritzed it with some Tim Holtz Mica Spray in Unraveled, and let it dry.

I stamped my image onto a piece of a manilla file folder and fussy cut it out.  I edged it with Vintage Photo Distress ink and colored it with Copic Sketch markers and gold and silver gel pens.  I re-stamped the face, punched it out with a circle punch, and affixed it over the original image with some foam tape. I added a couple of brads that look like screws and attached the whole image to my background panel, again using foam tape.

We look forward to seeing your Steampunk and Vintage makes here on the Portal.  Don't forget to use some rubber stamps for your projects, and we hope you are the lucky winner of some free stamps in August!

Steampunk slimline card.

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!
Hi stampers and other crafty people.
Do you love steampunk and vintage?
Than join the challenge and have a chance to win some rubber stamps.
Here's my DT example.
I made a slimline card, here is the step by step.
This is what I used:

Derwent Inktense pencils
Stazon Dove grey
A waterpoof black
Distress ink Wild honey,
Vintage photo,
Mowed lawn
Twisted citron.
Mica sheet.
White gell pen.

I started by stamping the Fly with bird stamp with black waterproof ink
on watercolor paper.
Color her in with the inktense pencils.
I chose green, yellow and gray,
because I didn't want to use the traditional steampunk/vintage colors this time.
When you're done coloring, cut out the steampunk girl.
You can use sissors or a knife, what ever works the best for you.
Now we make the background.
Make with the 4 colors and some water ink puddles.
The main part with the distress ink vintage photo and wild honey.
And with the green colors we do some ink here and there.
I used a piece of mica, so you have more control over where the ink goes.
Leave some space to print the other stamps.
With the gears 2 background stamp and Distress ink Mowed lawn I stamped here and there.
Because I wanted to keep it very subtle I stamped second and third generation.
With the Stazon dove gray I stamped in the left under corner
and the right upper corner with the pieces of calligraphy.
And did the same with the dirigible stamp in the top left corner.

I stamped with black stazon.
The text "Art gives my soul wings to fly",
Now glue on the steampunk lady and mat with gray.
I hope you liked it,
and maybe you will also make something for the challenge.
If you participate you have a chance to win beautiful stamps.
You have until the end of the month.

Vintage tag with a bit of steampunk

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Goodmorning, Cathy here a little bit late with my post.

Stamps Used:

I started out with a tag I had used to clean up some ink smooching I did for a different card. I used 3 different browns distress ink.
Then, I stamped a stamp from the Travel Stuff Set on the one side of the tag and to fill in the empty space I used a stamp from Pieces of Calligraphy set.
On a white scrap paper, I stamped Thick and Thin Men with black ink and fussy cut out. I glued them to the tag and cut out some steampunk gears and glued them around the tag.
Lastly, I added an umbrella to the tag for one of the gentlemen to hold.

I hope you join the challenge here.

A Piece of the Steampunk Puzzle

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello hello my friends!! Another fun Vintage/Steampunk creation to share with you...this time it's a very large piece of the puzzle...

I don't know about you but sometimes I like make things other than cards to stretch my imagination. One of my favorite alternatives to cards are puzzle pieces...every shape and size lend themselves to art.  Today's piece is about 5" tall which is quite a nice size to stamp on.

The process....

I started off by painting the puzzle piece with black acrylic paint.
Once it had dried I stamped the Gears background stamp on to the piece using VersaMark ink.
I sprinkled silver, ancient gold and verdigris embossing powders over the ink - shook off the excess and heated to melt.
A dauber was used to apply more VersaMark ink along the edges.
I then sprinkled with Copper ep, heated and melted.

For now the puzzle piece is finished.

The STP Dirigible image was stamped onto grey/blue cardstock using VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink.
The image was colored using KingArt brush markers after which it was fussy cut from the cardstock.
The word Fly from the Misc Words set of stamps was stamped onto a gel plate scrap of paper and matted with metallic copper cardstock.

The Dirigible and word were then affixed to the puzzle piece with foam tape.

Sunshine and the Great Outdoors

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello Portal Peeps.  Gail here with a little vintage style make featuring the dapper Drake Dog from Lost Coast Designs.  He always makes me think of a Victorian country gent.  I made a bit of a grungy background for him using a few different stamps.

I stamped the focal point using Lost Coast Designs Mini Phenology Collage stamp with potting soil archival ink.  I used part of the stamp that featured the lovely buildings and concentric circles.  Then using the same ink I roughly stamped the script words and a pattern from Pieces of Calligraphy and then filled in the gaps with ATC Doodle Flowers stamp.  No masking or even using a block, the same ink makes everything blend nicely together.
I edged the panel with the same brown ink and then smeared on a bit of Tumbled Glass distress ink and spritzed with water to soften and blend.  When it had dried I stamped Carmen's Veranda Live In The Sunshine sentiment and added Lost Coast Designs Drake Dog, stamped coloured and fussy cut.
I hope you get some time to stamps something in a vintage or steampunk style and join the fun here at the Lost Coast Portal to Creativity.  The team are sharing inspiration the rest of the month with this theme and we hope to see lots of lovely entries in the linky.  Take care.  Thanks for dropping by.  Hugz

Steampunk/Vintage: Steampunk Bicycle Lady

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Welcome from Laurie to the second day of our newest challenge:  Steampunk/Vintage.  I love a steampunk theme, so for this project, I used the Steampunk Bicycle Lady stamp and the Gears background stamp, both from Lost Coast Designs.

The bicycle lady was stamped with black ink onto white card stock and fussy cut out.
Her clothing and the large clock were colored with Copic Sketch Markers, and the bike frame and the frame around the clock were colored with silver and gold inks respectively.

The background gears were stamped with black ink onto cream paper that was then edged with Distress Ink in Vintage Photo.  I positioned the Bicycle Lady as shown and attached her with foam tape.  Final touch was to add some random gears in brass.

We look forward to seeing your creations for this latest challenge.  Don't forget to use some rubber stamping and you just might be the lucky winner of some free stamps from Lost Coast Designs or Carmen's Veranda!

Summertime - Mystery

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello all...I hope you're enjoying your week so far.  Today I have another card I made for the current challenge - Summertime!  I thought I would go under the sea for this card and used the Mermaid with a Shell stamp.

I started off by stamping her on bristol cardstock then used my iridescent watercolors to paint her tail and shell.  I used colored pencils to finish her off.  She was fussy cut and set aside.

I then commenced to work on the background.  I had such fun stamping this background - I fount a piece of teal cardstock which had a faint pattern on it.  I stamped the Mini Fish Collage and Mini Maritime Collage using VersaFine Clair Warm Breeze. I then used the Bubbles Background stamp to fill in the rest of the card.  Finally I used one of the ornaments from the Victoriana set to stamp a center line using Verdant VFC ink.  Once the ink had dried I used a white gel pen to fill in some of the Bubbles.

This panel was mounted on a black card and the mermaid was then affixed to the card using foam tape.  I finished the card off with some faux pearls and 3 stamped words from the Misc Words set.

Hope you all have an inky day and if you have a chance...be sure to join in on the fun!!

#172 Summertime challenge.

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

If there's one thing that reminds me of summer, it's the tropics.
Tropical fruit, plants, flowers and colors, then I think of Hawaii.
Aloha summertime.

This time its a slimline card. with the beautiful pineapple stamp from Carmens Veranda stamps.
This stamp is no less than 6 inches (15cm) in size.
Love to color this big stamp.

I used for this card:

Distressink:
Twisted citron,
Rustic wilderness,
Spiced marmelade,
Peacock feathers,
festive berries,

Stazon Forest green.

A stencil with a leaf patern.
Flower die.
Branch die.
The word Aloha.
Washi tape.
White gellpen
Water based makers.

With a small finger sponge I did the leaves of the stencil on the inside with Twisted citron.

I did the outside of the leaves in the same way with Rustic wilderness.

This has a nice effect of overflowing green in the leaves.

On watercolor paper I stamped the pineapple with Stazon Forest green.
And colored it with water based markers.
Yellow, orange, green and with the green tones I also colored the leaves.

I colored pieces of paper with all colors of distress ink.
This is for the flower and the leaves.
I matched the colors to the washi tape.

With the sizzix machine I die cut the flower and twigs.
I did not used the dark green.
Wanted to keep it brigth.
Now give the pineapple some accents with the white gellpen.

Now assamble the card and enjoy the summer.

You can join the Summertime challenge till the 15th.
Its great fun to make something with a summer theme.
You even may use stamps of other brands,
aslong there is stamping on it.
See you at the challenge  or facebook.

Thank you Cathy Norton for this beautifull poster.

Wisdom of the Sea and Mountains

Welcome back to Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda collide to bring you twice the inspiration and double the fun!

Hello Portal Peeps!   Gail here today.  The current challenge is Summertime so the team are sharing all their hot, summery makes.  I was thinking that summer is a good time to get out and enjoy nature so I decided to make a card using Lost Coast Designs Cracked Grass and Drake Dog and a new sentiment from Carmen's Veranda which really spoke to my soul.
The observant amongst you may notice that Drake Dog didn't make the final cut.......
Here's the very unassuming Cracked Grass stamp and Drake Dog, who I did stamp, colour and fussy cut.  I am sure he will star on some future project.  He's such a cutie.  When I first got the cracked grass stamp I couldn't work out why it wasn't cracked mountains!  Then I turned it up the right way and had an ohhhhhh! moment.  But I still think it makes good mountains too!
I never claim to be an artist which is why I stamp LOL.  But it looks mountain/lake enough for me.  Call it abstract art bwahahahhaaaa   I watercoloured my mountain scene with distress inks and sparkle.
I didn't use Drake Dog cos I think he disturbed my perspective of sweeping mountains.  So I just added this awesome sentiment, Everything Will Be Fine, which I split into two parts.
I hope you get time to stamp something summery and join the fun here at the Lost Coast Portal to Creativity.  The team will be posting more inspiration throughout the month so check back often and I look forward to seeing your makes.

Happy Stamping!
Gail
